Concrete is a becoming more and more popular and is a highly innovative method of concrete paving used for a variety of areas including garden paving and patios. The design is created by stamping or pressing the surface when the concrete is freshly laid pre-mixed concrete which creates the look of cobbles, stones, bricks, tile or stone. The material is specially formulated so that it has fibres in the mix so that it is high strength before it is poured onto the area, your chosen colour is then floated and evenly spread into the surface with the pattern stamped. A powder of liquid release is then used to give the unqiue of final finish to the area and the textured detail is achieved by using specially made texture mats.

Imprinted concrete and its benefits

The benefits of laying a surface with imprinted concrete as against its rival surfaces, such as block paving or tarmac, are many. Imprinted concrete can give the impression that it is another surface while retaining greater strength than the surface it is imitating. For example, a cobblestone effect may be given, and in many ways the concrete will be stronger than a cobblestones surface would be. The ease with which imprinted concrete can be cleaned is also a boon. Rotary tools and steam cleaners can be placed over imprinted concrete surfaces in order to clean them of oil stains or “de-age” them, returning them to their former glory in terms of appearance. Also available are chemical treatments to seal the concrete to hinder discolouration from the sun and to prevent the permeability of rainwater from causing damage. Imprinted concrete surfaces are unlikely to attract unsightly weeds or fungal growth. Lacking cracks and crevasses in which such growth or algae could gather, this means the area looks clean without having to maintain it in any way. Finally, its durability is also a factor in making it popular for patio surfaces and other garden features. Hard wearing concrete will stand up to the elements for many long years.
